Geotechnical Director

We are currently looking for an experienced Geotechnical Director to join and expand our team at Millward.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced geotechnical professional to take a senior leadership role, help shape and grow our geotechnical offering, and work alongside our wider engineering team on a varied portfolio of technically challenging projects.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng, P.E., P.Eng. or equivalent) desirable.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, including senior or leadership roles.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure and/or complex geotechnical projects.
  • Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, ground investigation techniques, numerical modelling and relevant design standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to provide high-level technical oversight and make sound, informed engineering decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across geotechnical engineering services, including site investigation, ground modelling, foundation design, slope stability, retaining structures and geohazard assessments.
  • Lead, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team of geotechnical engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee geotechnical input across major infrastructure, commercial, industrial and environmental projects.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to grow Millward’s geotechnical service offering.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, quality systems and health and safety requirements.
  • Review and approve technical reports, design deliverables and risk assessments.
  • Manage project budgets, programmes and resources to support successful project delivery.
  • Support business development through client engagement, proposal writing and participation in relevant industry events.
