Associate Civil Engineer

We are currently looking for an experienced Associate Civil Engineer to join and expand our team at Millward. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer professional to take a senior leadership role, help shape and grow our Civil services, and work alongside our wider engineering team on a varied portfolio of technically challenging projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of civil engineering design for housing estates, mixed-use developments, and commercial sites.
  • Oversee and review design work relating to highways, drainage, SUDS, utilities, earthworks, ground modelling, and infrastructure strategy.
  • Manage project teams, allocate resources, and ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technicians, and graduates.
  • Lead client communication and maintain strong relationships with developers, architects, planners, and local authorities.
  • Support the preparation of planning submissions, feasibility reports, and design documents.
  • Contribute to business development, bid writing, and securing new project opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, safety requirements, and internal quality processes.
  • Attend site meetings, inspections, and progress reviews as required.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Chartered or near-chartered with ICE (or equivalent professional body).
  • Typically 8–15+ years’ experience delivering civil engineering design for housing and commercial development projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of drainage (including SUDS), highways design, site infrastructure, and ground modelling.
  • Proficient in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, and related software.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent communication, client-facing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to contribute to business growth.
