Millward Case Study

This was the new build of an Energy from Waste (EfW) treatment plant for the European Metal Recyling and Innovative Environmental Solutions UK Ltd Environmental Solutions. Millward were appointed to provide the detailed designs for the civil and structural engineering work for the development, one of the UK’s largest facilities dealing with post shredder residues, with a capacity to process around 350,000 tonnes of materials each year. This will leave just 5,700 tonnes of material at the end of the process to be sent to landfill.

We liaised with the GI and environmental engineering consultants regarding the need for additional testing. The detailed design drawings ensured that every specification and requirement for the treatment plant was followed to ensure all design solutions fully matched the brief. We also provided architectural services.

Added Value

This project was truly collaborative, with Millward acting as the project lead. From the project’s inception, we took responsibility for procuring and managing the scheme’s project management, architecture and very complex M&E. Throughout the project, we facilitated design workshops to ensure the smooth running of the project and acted as the interface between the plant designer and contractor throughout construction.

Because we were so involved in the project from its inception, we were able to secure the contractor via open book negotiation and promoted a traditional design – giving the client cost certainty.
