We are seeking an Principal/Associate Civil Engineer to lead our growing civils team. Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal/Associate Civil Engineer to lead and manage projects in highways, drainage, and flood risk assessment (FRA). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, coordination, and delivery of infrastructure schemes, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of civil engineering projects with a focus on highways, drainage, and flood risk assessments.
  • Prepare and review detailed designs for highway alignments, junctions, road widening, and access roads in accordance with DMRB and local authority standards.
  • Design sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) and foul drainage systems using software such as MicroDrainage (InfoDrainage) and Civil 3D.
  • Produce and review Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) in line with NPPF and relevant EA/SEPA guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage project teams, including engineers, CAD technicians, and sub-consultants.
  • Act as technical lead and mentor for junior team members, providing training and guidance.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, statutory bodies, and other stakeholders to obtain approvals and ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and project risks.
  • Contribute to work winning through bid preparation, fee proposals, and client presentations.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE or similar) or working toward chartership.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in civil infrastructure design and project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of UK design standards (e.g., DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, CIRIA SuDS Manual).
  • Proficient in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, and drainage/network modelling software.
  • Demonstrated experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and liaising with the Environment Agency or SEPA.
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary design teams and managing projects to completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Section 38, 278, and 104 Agreements.
  • Experience with BIM and digital design tools.
  • Familiarity with environmental and planning processes.
